It's time to stoke the fire on the express rocketing toward another high school football season. Everybody is on board.
A&M Consolidated and Bryan joined the other Brazos Valley teams in preseason workouts Monday. The Vikings and Tigers started a week later than teams in smaller classifications because both Class 5A squads held spring drills.
After the first of four days with their players in shorts and helmets, Consol coach Jim Slaughter and Bryan coach Bob Bellard seemed to think spring practice was worth a later start in August.
"We've got some pretty good experience back on the offensive side of the football, and I thought our carryover from the spring was good," Bellard said. "I thought our backfield execution was good."

Former A&M Consolidated standout and assistant coach Duane Price has been hired as East Carolina's defensive tackles coach.
Price had been a graduate assistant at Texas Tech last season under former head coach Mike Leach and was retained by Tommy Tuberville. Price worked with Tech's defensive tackles under coordinator Ruffin McNeill, who was hired by East Carolina. Price worked with Tech's secondary in the spring.
The 34-year-old signed with Texas Tech after starring at Consol. He also played baseball at Tech and was selected in the 20th round of the major league baseball draft by Cincinnati after his senior season. Price was an assistant at Consol for five seasons before serving as a graduate assistant at Tulane in 2008.
"He was a big part of our success a year ago and I know what he can offer this program," McNeill said. "He's a master technician and motivator with an unmatched work ethic -- someone I know our players will respond to in a very positive manner."

A&M Consolidated greeted Killeen Ellison relief pitcher Colby Reece with consecutive run-scoring doubles Tuesday, helping the Tigers roll to a 7-1 victory over the Eagles at Tiger Field.
Grant Singleton and Shelby Robinson -- the last two batters in Consol's lineup -- each doubled to left, with Robinson ripping his hit inside the bag at third to plate Singleton.
The hits highlighted a six-run fifth inning in which Eagles starter Austin Reese walked three batters and sent two of them home with wild pitches. Andrew Brown and Caleb Riebe drew walks to start the inning and Colby Turton sacrificed to advance the runners.
Reese, who had allowed four hits and an unearned run, also walked Michael Todaro, which brought on the call to the Eagles' bullpen.
