A&M Consolidated's Max Miller in fourth at UIL state tournament

Class 5A Region II

WACO -- The A&M Consolidated boys sprint relay teams, coming off school-best performances in the preliminary rounds, saw their season end short of the state meet.

Consol's 400 relay unit of Ben Thornton, Brandon Jackson, Rodney Jernigan and Tyri Merchant improved one place by taking third at the Class 5A Region II meet Saturday, finishing in 41.74 seconds. Klein Oak won in 41.46 and Richardson took the second automatic berth to the state meet in 41.63.

The Tigers, whose time was not good enough to earn the at-large bid to state, broke the school record with a 41.57 in Friday's preliminaries.

Consol's 800 relay team of Javelin Guidry, Merchant, Jackson and Jernigan did not finish the final, which Westfield won in 1:26.19. The Tigers did not complete the second handoff. They broke the school record in the prelims with a 1:27.88.

"I am very proud of our team and all they accomplished this year," Tigers coach Kevin Waters said. "Two new school records at Consol is a very big deal with all the excellence and tradition."

Class 2A Region II

STEPHENVILLE -- Cameron's Aaron Sims won the boys 100 in a school-record 10.46.

The Cameron boys 400 relay team advanced to state with a second-place finish in 43.15. Rosebud-Lott won (42.90).

Cameron's girls 800 relay team earned a state berth by finishing second in 1:45.33.

The Yoemen also took fourth in the 800 relay (1:31.38).

Breena Lanford of the Lady Yoe took sixth in the 1,600 (5:40.36).

On Friday, Cameron's Jaz'mine Jones-Eaglin qualified for the state meet with a discus throw of 119 feet.

Class 2A Region III

WHITEHOUSE -- Centerville's Lexie Wall finished second in the girls 1,600, qualifying for state in both of the distance events.

Wall ran a time of 5:39.38 in the 1,600, which Hanna Lee of Chapel Hill won in 5:38.34. On Friday, Wall won the regional championship in the 3,200.

Wall was the Brazos Valley's only athlete at the 2A Region III meet to finish in the top two Saturday and automatically qualify for state. A couple of area competitors took third in their events and needed their marks to stand up against the other regions' bronze medalists in order to earn the ninth spot at the state meet.

Morgan Brewer of Franklin took bronze in the 800 in 1:59.88, finishing just behind Trevor Hemphill of Lone Oak in 1:59.1. Franklin's Ian Knight was third in the discus at 139-05.

Class A Division I Region IV

CONVERSE -- The Snook Lady Jays extended their domination of the regional meet relays with

Chastity Howard, Deara Barnes, Elexus Johnson and Makayla Howard winning the 400 relay in 51.09.

Burton (Monice Patterson, Danielle Briscoe, Emma Broesche, Kyeanna Kincade) took fifth in the opening race Saturday at D.W. Rutledge Stadium.

Burton's Kincaid (12.99) finished sixth in the 100.

Burton's Luke Huffer won the 200 in 22.84. Huffer also finished fifth in the long jump (20-0 3/4).

Milano's Camille Messer qualified for state in the 300 hurdles with a second-place time of 47.34.

Snook was fourth in the 800 relay at 1:50.04 with Burton fifth (1:50.12).

Snook's Maloree Vacha finished fifth in the 800 (2:36.64).

A time of 15.44 netted Milano's Alex Ferrara a bronze medal in the 110 hurdles won by Medina's Weston Jenkins, who had a meet-record 15.07.

Milano's Emily Overall placed fourth with her discus throw of 106-11. Teammate Amber O'Gilvie (27.68) was fourth in the 200 with Snook's Barnes sixth at 27.97.

Burton's boys took fifth in the 800 relay in 1:33.30.

On Friday, Milano's Tristan Lagrone was sixth in the shot put at 44-6.

Class A Division I Region III

PALESTINE -- Junior Sarah Hillman of Leon completed her distance double, and Caleb Eagans of Leon also qualified for state in two events to highlight the performances by Brazos Valley athletes at Palestine High School.

Hillman won the 1,600 on Saturday with a time of 5:38.66. She took the 3,200 on the opening day, finishing in 12:25.51.

Eagans, a senior, earned one gold medal and took second in another event. Eagans won the long jump with a distance of 21-6 1/2. He claimed the silver medal in the 300 hurdles by running 40.48.

Leon's Daniel Merry also won the boys 1,600 in 4:55.96.

Bremond had a pair of state qualifiers. Rhyniesccea Paul took second in the girls 100 (12.91), and the Tigers' Evan Sargent was second in the high jump at 6-3.

Leon's Shay Hastings also earned a berth to state in the 800, finishing second in 2:28.47.

Class A Division II Region IV

KINGSVILLE -- Calvert's LaKeydra Mosley won the girls 100 in 12.91 at Javelina Stadium.

Calvert's Tiffany Williams won the 400 in 59.19, took second in the 800 (2:21.49) and placed second in the 200 (26.91), edging out teammate Mosley (26.92) for the automatic state berth.

Calvert's 44 points were good for third in the girls team race, won by Nordheim with 65 points.

North Zulch's Andrea McWhorter, Mackenzie Horn, Victoria Goldsby and Rebecca Goldsby placed second in the girls 1,600 relay in 4:25.88.

Dime Box's Cheyenne Shed took third in the 1,600 (6:06.59).

North Zulch's Rebecca Goldsby took third in the girls 3,200 (13:21.30) with Dime Box's McKenzie Bage in sixth (14:36.58).

Richards' Chad Allman was third in the boys pole vault clearing 10-0, and Miles Conner took fifth at 9-6.

Dime Box's Caesar Ceniceros was fourth in the 1,600 (5:11.95).

McWhorter placed fourth in the girls high jump by clearing 4-8.

Calvert's boys placed fifth in the 800 relay (1:38.22)

Raquel Wortham for Calvert took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 32-11.

North Zulch's Victoria Goldsby was sixth in the girls 800 (2:35.87).

On Friday, Ceniceros won the 3,200 in 10:49.82.
